We enjoyed a nice few days in Zakinthos, the town is lovely and the island is worth exploring away from the commercialised tourist areas--------- and I got a haircut !

So on 25th we slipped our lines from the town quay and headed around the tip of the island and onto the N/W coast  to Volimes or the famous Shipwreck cove.
The forecast for very light winds on the exposed coast was ideal to motor in calm conditions to the bay. The cliffs and shoreline of the dramatic N/W coast are stunning-----steep, creamy white stone falling vertically into the sea and creating  turquoise water at the base.

Unfortunately, despite the light winds, the swell was moderate coming in from the open sea and Italy and so was rolling into the Shipwreck bay. However we anchored temporarily in 13 m and launched the dinghy  for Tony to take some photos----see below.

The previous day we had visited the bay by car and taken photos from the tremendous viewing point high above the bay. The aerial photos are more dramatic and the ultimate photo of Tioram anchored in the bay----  which we would have loved---- was not possible as we don't have a a shore team!!

The bay is truly spectacular and worthy of all the holiday brochure shots for Zakinthos. The actual tanker shipwreck is not pretty but it serves its purpose to give great scale to the enormous vertical cliffs down to the sea.

We lifted the dinghy after an hour and headed north to Kefalonia. A fire plane came by along the cliffs as we left.

We motored north across the channel between Zakinthos and Kefalonia and as we neared the island we were buzzed by 2 more fire seaplanes.  The first passing closely but the second was very close and very low looking as if he might land on our heading------- in the bright low sun Tony actually  made a course change to put our broadside to the closing plane in case he couldn't see us bow forward.
Needless to say he missed us but Tony was a little nervous----- and nothing normally fazes him----- glad we didnt need to fill in the insurance form for that one-------- hit by low flying fire/seaplane!!!

We finally anchored for the night in the bay of Poros on Kefalonia.

Stunning photos of---------
