At 10.30 hrs on 26th June we sailed out of Palma and set a
course for Sardinia. We motorsailed to clear the large bay in light winds and
then sailed with full sail through the day and night until 01.00 hrs
on the 27th when we started motoring again in 3 knots breeze.
Last time we sailed east on this trip in Sept 2010 we
had plenty of wind, unpleasant weather and rain. In June the conditions
are much nicer. We motored for most of the day and night of the 27th in
light winds and a comfortable sea and very little traffic.
Life on board settles into watch systems of 4 hours on, 4
hours off watch during the night and Tony and I alternating sleeping when we
need to during the day.
At 06.13 hrs on 28th June, Tony called Land ho--Sardinia,
we continued towards the island and enjoyed the spectacular
scenery of the south west tip of Sardinia bathed in early
morning light --- the crystal clear water and beach/shoreline of the Gulf
of Cagliari.
Finally, we anchored in Porto Malfatano bay at 14.00 hrs
after two days, five and half hours covering 339 n miles through the water.
Our reward was a swim to the beach to plant our feet
firmly on 'Sardinia'. We enjoyed a calm night at anchor----- the boat
strangely still after two days at sea.
Love to all
