Hi all,

The stories from Sami town continue.

Sami is a ferry port for excellent links to Patras on the mainland and to Brindisi in Italy.

You can always tell when a ferry is expected to arrive as the flurry of parcels arrive and are deposited on the dockside. Passengers, cars and articulated lorries gather. The ferry arrives and its contents seem to explode onto the dock before the waiting people, packages etc. board the ferry.  ( see also Ferry Life in Sami blog and photos July  2012  ---posted 15th sept 2012).

This year before any of this activity started a Speedex parcel van drove up to the edge of the quay and deposited his Speedex parcels onto the dock and then left.  With a strong wind the sea was bashing into the dock sending spray over the wall and raining down onto the now wet…. not so speedy parcels.

The lone parcels sat there for at least an hour, unattended. I could only hope that the contents were not valuable. The usual flurry of activity started as a ferry was obviously due to arrive. Cars arrived, people gathered, scooters back and forth….. all happening around the stranded wet parcels.

Eventually, the ferry arrived, the usual frenzy of arriving and departing. Then a man arrived in a Speedex van, got out, picked up the parcels and carried them onto the car deck… one by one.

So the not so speedy speedex parcels were en route somewhere…… could only happen in Greece !!
