It was great to sail into the delightful harbour again---- we previously
visited on 6th June.
We enjoyed a nice evening on board and on 6th Sept we explored the
town with Jackie and John. We visited the maritime museum---Galaxidhi has a long
history of boat building and merchant shipping in the tiny port.
One of the joys of mooring to the quay is the rush to plug into electricity
and water---very sad we know--- but it means we get aircon and the washing
machine.
So if the power trips out--- its a crisis of course !!!
So it tripped and I rushed off to speak to a local guy who promptly pulled
me off into a restaurant----he didn't speak English. Before I knew
it, I was offered a chair at their table, given a drink and found myself sitting
with the two old guys chatting about life in Galaxidhi and they were interested
in our travelling-----whilst the music of Beethoven, Bach, Ravel, Pavarotti and
Acker Bilk poured out around us-----fab atmosphere.
And so the electricity got put back on and 30 minutes later Tony came to
see if I’d been kidnapped !!! He was promptly offered a beer and so the
conversation continued about how--- ‘all words in all languages’-- are derived
from the Greek language---- just like the father in ‘My Big Fat Greek
Wedding’.
We had such a good time that we returned later with Jackie and John to
enjoy a traditional lunch.
