On 16th August we motored out of Lakki bay and then ran downwind with full sails in 15 knots to 35 knot true gusts, moderate sea for the 21 N miles to the island of Kalymnos.
We arrived at 16.20, expecting the harbour to be full, but luckily we got a nice stern to mooring on the new pontoons.

Kalymnos is historically famous for its sponge fishing from around 500 BC.  Natural sponges have many uses and are still dived for today, although the invention of the synthetic sponge changed the commercial fate of Kalymnos to sponges now mainly sold to the tourist industry.

The port of Pothia looks nice from the sea but as the pilot book remarked, it is a little scruffy in the town--- so we stayed just for one night and the next morning lifted anchor and slipped stern lines and headed for the island of Kos.

Photos of Pothia from the sea and on the dock.

Love to all
