On 25th July we left Olbia sailing back to Cannigione. As we past Cabo Figaro the head winds increased and this created a larger swell.

Beating into the seas we suddenly realised that for the first time ever in our 29 years sailing we had forgotten to secure our forward hatch which was closed but not locked shut.

We had been dipping the bow into the seas and water pouring across the decks had been seeping into the forward locker.

Fortunately only long enough to wet the stored sails. We secured the hatch and finally sailed into Cannigione taking a buoy.

Spinnakers and cruising chutes are huge sails from our 72ft mast, easy to dry laid out ashore but tricky on the deck of a yacht.

The next day the predicted wind kicked in topping out at 35 knots….. not always a glass of wine anchored in the bay….the joys of sailing hey.
