Churros for breakfast? and our first night sail experience

After meeting with Pepe and Maria, Spanish friends of T&T, we had to come for a typical Spanish breakfast before leaving the harbour. They own a small Churroria, where they cook you fresh churros with chocolate milk.  A bit heavy and risky for the stomach with a 24 hour sail ahead, but it worked out very well…

Then we had to prepare for departing and after a dozen of goodbyes we dropped lines around 9.00am. Pepe and Maria wished us a safe trip and waved us goodbye.

A 150 NM non stop trip to Formentera was ahead of us. We were really exited, as this was our first night sail and more than 24 hours non stop at sea! Sea was very calm and after passing Cabo de Palos we set sail and continued on a 7-11 knts wind. Saw a group of 15-20 dolphins passing our boat, amazing!

During night watch Anita, Tina and myself were on watch for three hours, Tony did his watch on his own.

At 2.00am it was our turn again, but Tony was enjoying himself at the helm with 14-15 knts of wind, so we were sent to bed again. ‘Finally’ at 3.15am it’s our turn again. The black sky full of bright stars was stunning. Anita’s having big trouble keeping awake…sitting under the spray hood without moving, she was sleeping…. At 6.00am Tina, what a relief for her, sent her to bed!

Then, after 27 hours non-stop sailing and motoring on a calm sea we entered the bay of Formentera and let down the anchor across the Espalmador Beach, beautiful! We had a relaxing warm and sunny afternoon.

That night Tina made us a delicious pastry with salad and Sangria, wonderful sunset and ‘hilaric’ stories about first tacks, parties with too much wine and feeling paralised?!, falling from stairs and how Tony got his nick name Tony Torpe…
