Cannigione, local life ashore. 15th- 17th July 2015.

Hi all,

Cannigione has become a base for us in Sardinia.

It is perhaps an interesting philosophical question and no doubt one studied by many learned academics and doctorates......what constitutes a sense of feeling 'at home'.....is it friendship, familiarity, commonality?? etc etc ??
Most people 'nest build' in new locations, for us Tioram is our home on the water....so we always feel 'at home'.  But interestingly it seems that locations make people ' feel ' at home and for us Cannigione offers this in Sardinia.

On the evenings the atmosphere ashore is lovely. The artisan street market lines the waterfront and locals and tourists alike enjoy promenading.
There are many craftsmen and women who make and sell jewellery, paintings, objects, leather work etc. One man uses a band saw on something which looks like a sewing machine. Very quickly he produces wooden letters to form the buyers name, the letters are all connected, linked , often with a flurry, swirl or even a dolphin attached to the top of a letter.
This is all done with continuous cuts, moving the flat wooden board around lettings no the fixed blade do the cutting. People often think he draws on the boards first, but actually no, he asks the name and away he goes. The most common and uncommon of names alike grow out of the board with nail biting speed and closeness to the super sharp vertical blade.
A twist, a cut, like ballet the name appears complete with the dolphin over a convenient letter.
Simple balsa wood is hand painted and coloured, the artists material which becomes the name.

On one evening we also saw a small band play in the church square. A crowd gathered to enjoy ' James Blunt' style music. There is something very fab about milling around in the warm evening air of summer in the Med where in squares and public areas there are often open air performances for locals and tourists to enjoy.
I took a lot of pictures of this group as their lights created amazing shadows on the building behind them. The shadows were very crisp and exaggerated scale.  We watched as the large shadow played the songs which we could hear without at times seeing the actual singer.

Great evening atmosphere.

Love to all
