Hi all,

We slipped our warps at 12.35 hrs. from Ayios Eufimia, Kefalonia to motor in 6-8 knots true wind… on the nose,  north up the Ithaka channel.  As we neared Fiskardho on the NE tip of Kefalonia we motored out of the lee of the island , the mainsail filled, genoa out and in 12.6 knots true we were away, reaching along, great sailing towards the Island of Levkas. A photographer from Fiskardho often runs alongside yachts in the channel. sometimes taking photographs… he ran with us for a while, sadly we had the dinghy on the bow spoiling the shots…. but we’ll see.

We headed up and by 16.07 hrs. we were beam reaching in 22 knots true with only a slight sea, powering along.

Finally as we approached Rouda bay we dropped our sails and motored into it, anchoring off the east shore. The bay is very deep, 80 m at the entrance and centre….actually the same as the English Channel.

The beach at the far end shelves slowly and would make a great anchorage, but in summer it is buoyed off for swimmers. A great idea but the buoys are way out in the bay making it almost impossible to anchor in 20-25 metres.

The east shore by the tiny fishing harbour of Mikros Gialos has around 15-22 m depths and is more anchorable with plenty of chain out.

We enjoyed 3 lovely days at anchor surrounded by Italian holiday makers on the shore, a great taverna serving fab homemade food and a view of traditional village local life.
