‘The things we do’—in Malta ---17th November 2010
And so the winter boat jobs
begin.................................
Tony is literally now in his element, head in lockers,
bilges, as you do, fixing, installing and maintaining things.
I have to admit to getting excited about his latest job.
Tony is on a mission to install a much needed washing
machine. 17 months of hand washing our smalls and paying for our towels
and sheets to be laundered around the Caribbean has finally taken its
toll.
There is a glorious switch on our chart table panel which
says 'washing machine' which does absolutely nothing because the original
factory fitted washing machine option was very expensive.
Hence no machine under the chart table seat.
However, the switch might work later today and something incredible might eat
clothes and spit them out clean ---- we hope!!
Tony has measured and re measured and finally taken the chart table seat
out to 'hopefully' make installation easier. The fact that we are stern too to
an old wharf at the moment doesn’t make thing easy. The high old wharf is
broken and we are moored well forward from it which makes the daily paserelle
(gangplank) gymnastics to get on and off worthy of a comedy sketch. I haven't
quite crawled across it yet.
So picture halyards, ropes, a fair swell and a swinging washing machine
hanging off the top of the mast with another rope tied to a canon !
We have finally got it installed and loaded it----------- it filled, washed
and spun----- much to our celebration---- how sad is that---- the things we do
!!
Love
