Well we made it at last!  After exactly 50hrs, mostly motoring across the Ionian sea from Sicily, here we are “Mediterranean moored” to a Greek town quay in our own boat for the 1st time.  The end was only slightly problematic, in that the anchor chain got jammed, stopping my newly installed “control it from the cockpit” method from working 1st time in the cross wind.  Ho hum, we made it OK in the end.

We had a great crossing: it started off well with sightings of a) a huge sunfish, b) a turtle, c) two pods of dolphins, and c) Etna, complete with smoke plumes from its summit!  As the sun set, we could still see Etna silhouetted against the pink sky, nearly 50 miles into the journey.   Altogether, we managed our 1st two-night crossing on our own very well.  We both felt more inclined to carry on rather than urgently wanting it to finish, so maybe longer distances are possible someday.
