Day 8 (5/6) – Almost
“home” and nearly “dry”, with resh cabbage and apples still to eat, plenty of
other tinned and packet food plus the rationed “Hob-Nobs” to end the journey!
Although yesterday
afternoon was not without incident – a smell of electrical smoke from around the
aft cabin / engine compartment –thorough check of all wiring revealed the AC
plug aft cabin – underneath a multitude of tonic cans, coffee, crisps and
cracker supplies (that’s another story) was shorting. Connection cut and
isolated for continued inverter use. Also, possible that this was the cause of
the shore power tripping in the Azores … we shall see soon enough.
In the
meantime, Magic Friday sailed on eastward. Just crossing the traffic separation
scheme (“TSS”) in time before 3 southbound ships bore down upon us; northbound
clear to progress…land is in sight – at least on the chart! Should make the waypoint and entrance to
Rio Tejo nicely for a flooding tide and then up to the marina lock gates.
