After a quiet night we awaken to a crowd of small boat fishers - nets and line. seemingly in a fierce competition to catch the most in the shortest time - expletives included between the boats!! Another try with the outboard - same 5 seconds success and then nothing - so back to the drawing board (internet forums) to see why it won't run. Never mind - the row ashore will be good cross-training (in the absence of a run)! Walking across the island once again within the majestic live oaks and draping Spanish moss - nothing changes - more watercolour picture attempts! Wild horses graze near the rolling sand dunes. Lunch, swim and a game of bowls on the almost deserted mile upon mile of white sandy beach and a walk back along trails.... a rustling in the undergrowth, too load for a lizard - we wait to see what emerges : an armadillo - at last! Hunting for its food of grubs, not at all troubled by our proximity .. or the bush noise ... or our photographs - too busy scavenging! Finishing the trail amongst fallen trees colonised with fungi or washed white by the sea, a sighting of Magic Friday on anchor and a short row back to the boat. At last, we can leave the Island satisfied we have seen an Armadillo!
