A night lit only by planets and stars - Venus setting quite quickly in the west whilst Jupiter rose in the east to transit the night sky with a shimmering light across the black water. The wind dropped around midnight, so back to motor sailing slowly to arrive Morehead City safe water bouy in daylight. A deep easterly swell developed as waves rolled the beam of the boat and sails flapped - not the most pleasant of nightly sails!

Nevertheless, the morning sun chased away a slight mist, the lights of land gave way to building structures and Morehead City channel was in sight. But then also, sow as a large dredger - the "McFarland" right in the middle of the narrow channel, flanked by shoals and breaking waves. A quikc call to check we were clear to pass on their port and full throttle (against the tide) to nip past as quick as possible whilst they continued to dredge alongside!

Safely tied up in Morehead City Yacht Marina. Over to Floyd's restaurant a lively place with band and dancing on the deck outside and a delightful evening dinner.
