Day 3 (31/5) –
Yesterday ended pleasantly with sundowners and Matt's sailing playing list
music, boat speed 5-6knts in the continuing southerly breeze. Fresh cabbage,
potatoes and pre-cooked turkey on
the menu after 23 days effectively “at sea” (no fresh provisioning opportunity
ion Horta)! The night was lit by a billion stars, the Milky Way and a shimmering
light across the sea from Venus, low on the south eastern horizon.
Unfortunately, the wind died in the early hours of the morning, leaving no
choice but to motor sail. GRIB files show an extended area of little/no wind in
between light northerlies and southerlies, pressure above 1,000mb – an Azores
high zone. The only prospect could be a spinnaker run 30+nm north to reach 10Kn
south-westerlies….a decision to be made later this morning… And we did – full
asymmetric spinnaker out and flying nicely (well, most of the time in very light
winds)!!
