Finished off boat jobs (stainless cleaning, some stitching repair on a wheel cover etc.) in time to enjoy a short self-guided walking tour of Beverly's "Privateer Trail". Just under 3 miles the trail passes many of the 1700's original houses of the privateers' houses (e,g, Captain Hugh Hill's built in 1781), Independence Park for a vantage point of the sea location where on October 10 1775 the HMS Nautilus fired upon and chased a Continental schooner Hannah until she was forced to run aground near the present day park. Unfortunately, by the end of the day, HMS Nautilus also grounded on a mussel bed in Beverly Harbour and was caught in crossfire between militia groups from Salem and Beverly. When the tide rose, the nautilus was refloated and she sailed away never to return! A game of beach boules on the sandy strip before continuing on the trail past the oldest commercial building still in operation (1701), the First Parish Church (1667) and the first Sunday school established in New England in 1807. A full historic rounding of the town!
A brief stop at the Anchor pub (completely full of locals again) and back to the boat as the thunderstorm clouds gathered overhead. Nevertheless, a rainy BBQ finished the day!
