As dawn broke on another clear blue sky day - nothing more to do but to leave Magic Friday to the "lap of the Gods" . and the marina dock hands. Taking with me a few possessions, ships papers and of course the sextant(!). A grueling 7 hr back road journey home to Atlanta, checking the hurricane's track as often as possible - forecast effects would be early hours Monday morning - shortly after a high tide!
Only to find the city of Atlanta announcing a shut-down on Monday and residents advised to avoid travelling in the expected high winds and rain - almost "out of the frying pan and into the fire"!

Postscript: Monday 11th Sept - The winds ripped across Atlanta, the sky darkened and rain fell in torrents. Trees and branches were down and a million residents lost power. Thankfully though Irma was downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it crossed the State line into Georgia. No word form the marina as their lines were down.. Several (worrying) days later a call from the marina confirming that all was well - the docks had held, winds had been strong but not hurricane force and they were not aware of any significant vessel damage! A relief! Sadly, not the same for the Carribean Islands, Cuba or vast swaths of Florida - Hurricane Irma has been recorded as the strongest ever recorded - with 180moh winds for 37hours - economic cost upwards of $200Bn. Hurricane Lee and maria were following but loosing intensity and not forecast to reach landfall . although Maria tracked back across the Atlantic and caused some gales across the north of the U.K.!! Not to mention hurricane Harvey having devastated Texas only 3 weeks previously. Well, the NOAA had forecast it to be a more "active" season and what a season so far - another 6-7 weeks to go!
