After a busy couple of days we are now midway between Lanzarote and
Las Palmas in Gran Canary.
Magic Friday is a Moody 41AC owned by Phil & Di Wall, new in April
2010, and the mission is to get it to Antigua safely, in a respectable
time and have some fun on the way. Phil Di and myself (Jeff) flew
down to the boat yesterday, where she was ashore in Puerto Calero
after having the bottom cleaned and antifouled for the impending
voyage. After a quick inspection the boat was launched and we set to
stowing an abundance of kit that we brought with us, including a new
spinnaker. The rest of the day was taken up with jobs in preparation
for an early start today.
We managed to leave at around 06.00 this morning in very light winds
but soon managed to try out the new Spinnaker that is hopefully going
to help us make a good time. With winds from the NNE about 15kts for
most of the day it has been a very pleasant first day to shake the
boat down and test the watermaker and various onboard systems.
The plan now is to get to Las Palmas late tonight, spend the next two
days provisioning and preparing, and depart sometime on Saturday.
There will be three on board for the trip, Phil (owner/skipper) myself
and Chris who will join us on Friday.
More later and we will get some photos on soon.
