On day five
we head off for Nuwaraeliya stopping at
a tea plantation on the way. My
individual guide is wonderful and is interested that I am from Belfast. The 100 year old drying machine was made
there. I taste lots of different
teas. It is just like wine tasting but
less fun. Loaded with several different varieties we head off for a train
journey.
The train is
late but I have a great window seat.
Whoever decided to build this little railway line had no concerns about
the cost. Very windy through miles of
eucalyptus forest, dozens of tunnels an past magnificent vegetable gardens –
leeks, carrots, cabbage and lots more happily growing in the cooler high
altitude. This is a train journey to die for and it is especially nice to get a
break from my idiot driver.
Arriving at
Ella I check into the hotel and climb Adam’s Peak. A nice hill with great views albeit a little
misty today. Sri Lankan curry and rice
for dinner. Washed down with a few
beers…
Next morning
off to the Yala National Park to see tigers.
Hopefully. With Dayal driving at
15 kilometers per hour, mostly on the wrong side of the road we will be lucky
to get there. But we do.....
