RLYC geared
up for the birthday party of Tunka Puteri, the king’s daughter. She is 50, doesn’t look it and is
unmarried. She has a nice big catamaran
in the marina not far from where I am.
The party is set up around the pool which means that cruisers like me
have to walk straight through the party as is lies on the direct path from the
bar to the marina berths. No problem and no obvious security among many Royals and the prime minister.
An Aussie
beside me is organizing a mini cruise
for about six or seven days around the islands.
But we are waiting for a weather window.
A system blew through a couple of days ago and one boat recorded 49
knots; a squall admittedly but it did blow over 30 knots for much of the
day. Not what you want in a confined
anchorage.
In the
meantime we took his dinghy on an excursion around a small island beside us. But the big thing for me now is Brexit. When I first came to Malaysia last November
there were 6.5 Ringgit to the pound. Now
just 5.2. My contract to ship the boat
to the Mediterranean (Turkey, would you believe) is in US$. At the time of signing $1.50 to the pound,
now 1.30. Maybe I should not have spent
so much on my re-fit and overland trip…
