Heading to Sri Lanka

Well, DHL
finally got my charts to me just 16 days after they arrived in Thailand. And so
we headed north to the Similans but the weather was against us. Light winds from the wrong direction. (Anybody want to buy some charts of the Similans
and Surins?). Gigi got a gastric infection but my clever Ipad found a clinic
and a pharmacy. So she seems OK now.
Back at
Chalong we arrived in a 30 knot rain squall right in the path of a speedboat
run to a tourist island. We missed about
10 of them at close quarters in terrible visibility; not nice but at least we
got out water tanks filled.
The boat is
now full of water, food and fuel. But it is looking like the wind might die
just when we want to leave. Well, so be
it. And sorry not to be stopping at the
Andamans or the Nicobars. It is just not
allowed Andamans you can stop at but getting a visa is murder if you are not in your home country). One boat stopped at the
Nicobars three days ago to get shelter with a crew member very seasick and they
were moved on very quickly by the army.
Technically this is against International Maritime regulations not to
allow safe quarter. But at the end of
the day the man with the big gun has the final word.
Challenging
superstition we are leaving on Friday 27th. And will celebrate Chinese New Year at sea on
the Saturday. A first for me. I have to wear red for some reason…
