Half Way

Well, today Saturday 13th April I am half way, on miles at least. Time will tell if I am half way on days. The weather has been great so far but sadly no rain - I really could do with some more water. I have enough to drink but have to be very economical with all other uses. I still have some vacuum packed meat but it ends today so the fishing line goes out tomorrow. Still some fresh fruit and veg so quite happy really.

There are now about 14 boats on passage from the Galapagos to the Marquesas spread out over more than 1,000 miles. We all chat on the radio twice a day. The smallest boat, Dolphin of Leith, is just 30 feet long and has two children on board aged four and two (it's OK their parents are also aboard to help them to sail it). The fastest boat is a catamaran coming up behind me at 12 knots. I say coming up behind me, she will pass 100 miles to the south, but out here in the vast Pacific that counts as a near miss!

The trade winds seem to be behaving. If they continue to behave I could make landfall at Hiva Oa in 2 weeks. But anything can happen at sea...
