Port Vila, Efate

I leave in the middle of the day in very light winds for Port Vila the capital of Vanuatu. This is a big holiday destination for Australians. On this island they have paved roads, electricity, internet (after a fashion) and European prices. But it is nice to have a bit of civilisation again. There are some very expensive boats here; the locals a super friendly. But one person does make the point that they got independence too early - "We should have waited until the French built us some more roads, schools and hospitals".

The yachties social scene is good. Last night seven of us set up a Chinese banquet at a local resturaunt. But now all focus is on getting my Australian visa. When applying for a visa for more than three months the process is arduous...
