Everyone
remembers the Khmer Rouge. Probably 25%
of the population died. Boy soldiers
were ordered to kill friends, neighbours and even relatives. And when they realised what was really going
on they were murdered in turn. Schools
teachers were a particular problem as they might teach the children the truth.
After the fall of Pol Pot only 15% of the population were literate. If you could read and write that qualified
you as a teacher in the new regime, so what a recovery there has been over the
last 40 years.
