Well, the sand banks of Moreton Bay, outside Brisbane, are just 65 miles away so I have slowed the boat right down to arrive at daybreak tomorrow which coincides with low water just as I had planned it eight days ago. By going slowly I missed the nasty weekend overtime charges for customs, immigration and bio-security and also a nasty weather front. So for once the passage planning was OK. So far. But I still have 24 hours to go!

I had been on port gybe since leaving Noumea but at midnight last night the wind took a turn north. One gybe in eight days ain't bad. I had full moon a few days ago. Each night the sun sets directly ahead of me and soon after the big moon rises over calm seas directly astern. There have only been two nights with cloud. Lovely sailing.

At coffee time this morning I saw my first vessel since leaving New Caledonia. A big Australian warship. I decided to leave it alone but they clearly saw me as a threat as they immediately steamed in the opposite direction.

Roll on the big pink island...
