Well, I knew that there was a weather convergence zone about. It dissipated and then reformed. Instead of sitting still and letting me sail through it it decided to tag along for three days. Giving very variable winds and lots of rain. I should have a north east trade wind of 12 knots and bright sunshine but at one time I had heavy rain and 30 knots from the south. i did not see the sun for three days. Not exactly what I had signed on for!

Trying to motor through a very confused sea and no wind one night the exhaust sounded funny. The raw water pump had failed, brand new three weeks ago. When the two skilled mechanics were fitting it I thought, there is a job I could not do. (Very awkward to get at etc). Well, now I had no choice. First to get the big engine box off, then secure it, then fit the replacement. I really had no choice. I cannot sail around fishing boats and ships in a light and variable wind. I finish the job, move to Indian time and turn the clocks back one and a half hours. I am then able to write in my log that I changed the pump and the job took me three seconds!

I have 600 miles to go. Mersoleil which left at the same time as me is almost in Kochi. In two days, I hope, I will be rounding the southern end of Sri Lanka and then facing the challenge of the west side where a venturi effect between India and Sri Lanka will give me strong head winds and big seas. But that is not for a couple of days.

I am now 10 days at sea. How to celebrate? I know. I'll have a shower...
