Ok, we're ready.
There comes a time in every passage when the captain and crew declare themselves ready for arrival.  On the long 17 day Galapagos to Marquesas passage across the eastern Pacific in early 2008, this declaration came on day 14.  For this originally 6-day, now 8-day passage, we have decided 7 days is enough.  Bring on the vodka and tonic and a full night's sleep.  We are ready.

Had the tranquil weather conditions of the past three days continued, we might feel differently, but rain squalls arrived last night and blotted out our view of the stars.  As if that wasn't bad enough, the squalls then proceeded to strangle the air and suck all the wind out, leaving seas just lumpy enough to be uncomfortable.  We had no choice but to crank up the engine and motorslog through the bumps this morning.  Yuck.

Hey, but wait a minute - the engine just went off and the sails are up (the captain has been busy).  It's quiet and smooth.  This isn't so bad.  Maybe we could handle a few more days after all - or at least one more anyway.

Progress report.
103 miles - 6 hours of motoring, 18 sailing.

86 miles to go.  Even on this slow boat, it's a good bet we'll get there tomorrow.

Big Events.
At what would normally have been shower time, about twenty dolphins barreled over, synchronizing their jumps as they approached.  It was a grand entrance.  Once they arrived, however, they took one look, saw us sipping tea, and skedaddled.  Again, we wonder if their tendency to arrive at shower time is truly an innocent coincidence.  Hmmm.

We'll update the blog after our arrival tomorrow.
Cheers -
Anne
