Picture 1 - This is a view of Leinster Bay taken from shore.  Our boat is in the center of the picture.

Picture 2 - The National Park Service charges $15/night to stay on the moorings or to anchor.  This is the floating pay station in Leinster Bay.  Cute, isn't it?

Picture 3 - We hiked to the remains of the Annaberg Sugar Mill, and this is a picture of what is left of the windmill used to power the wheels that crushed the juice out of the sugar cane.  A funny thing happened at the sugar mill....
We were just about to leave the park after walking around all of the ruins, when Don suggested we go up to a part of the ruins that we had missed.  When we got up there, one of the volunteer docents came over, introduced herself and started to tell us more about the sugar plantation.  Don just kept staring at her and finally said, 'You're Anne Frick'.  At this point I'm starting to get a little embarrassed - of course she is Anne Frick, she introduced herself and on top of that she was wearing a name tag.  But then she stared back at Don and said, 'And you're Don!'.  Yes, here on St. John, where there are only 3,000 people, a small fraction of which are people that relocated here from the US mainland, we ran into someone that used to have a sailboat right next to Don's at Oak Park Marina on Sodus Bay in Lake Ontario back in the 1980's.  How entirely odd.  So Don and Anne Frick reminisced for a bit about other sailboaters they knew from that era at Oak Park and Anne brought us up to speed on what she and her husband Randy have been doing.  They have a house on the St. Lawrence River and a house near Coral Bay on St. John and they split time between the two.  Sounds good to us.  After a bit we left and hiked back to Leinster Bay.  On this trip we have had quite a few small world experiences - like running into other boaters who know the previous owners of our boat and meeting Canadians that completed the world sailing rally back in 1997, but this experience takes the cake so far.

Picture 4 - A view of Mary's Point taken from the Annaberg Sugar Mill.

Picture 5 - We hiked over the hills of St. John to Coral Bay, and this was our first view of the bay.  It was getting ready to rain at this point, but the rain only lasted the typical 5 minutes.  As we walked down into the town of Coral Bay and started discussing where a good place for lunch might be, a truck came by and stopped on the side of the road.  Who was it?  None other than Anne Frick.  She just happened to drive by just in time to give us good advice on where to go for lunch.  Another wacky coincidence.

Picture 6 - The same view of Coral Bay, but taken as we were headed back to Leinster Bay.  The sun was out and made for a whole new look.

Picture 7 -  Don had mentioned that there were wild donkeys and wild goats on St. John, but I thought he was kidding until we saw both on our hike to Coral Bay and back.  These donkeys joined us for a bit on the hiking trail.

Picture 8 - The wild goats trotted by us on the road as we walked through the town of Coral Bay.  This was the first bunch to go by.  A second bunch followed a few minutes later.

Picture 9 - This is a big nasty termite's nest in one of the trees along the Leinster Bay / Coral Bay hiking trail.

That's it for our stay in Leinster Bay.
Anne
