We arrived safely in Galle this morning after a mostly
sleepless night weaving our way through hundreds of fishing boats. We
thought Indonesia and the Malacca Strait won the prize for the most fishing
boats crammed into a single body of water. Nope, it's Sri Lanka.
Hands down. So much for arriving bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!
Clearing in was no problem, but certainly was an experience -
four hours, a navy escort and 11 officials later, we are good to go. The
full story, complete with passage summary and pictures, will follow at a
later date when my brain is not so fried.
You can bet we will sleep well tonight (as long
as the flimsy plastic blue floating pontoon we are Med moored
to doesn't come unhinged, sink or spontaneously disintegrate - zoom in on
our position in the Google Earth map and you'll see this famous blue
plastic wonder all the boaters are always moaning about).
Cheers from Sri Lanka where one shouldn't come if seeking
