Sorry for the delay! After entering Canada,
we had trouble with our cell phone - no service and therefore, no internet
connection. After about 60 phone calls to various Cingular offices, we
finally got it fixed today (Thursday, 7/19). So, we are currently in
Montreal, and I have a lot of blog catch up work to do.
Last Sunday, we sailed from Odgensburgh to where
the Raquette River enters the St. Lawrence. We traveled through the first
three locks with no problem at all thanks to our hired hands (Suzanne and
Bob). The first picture below shows our view as we traveled out of the
Snell lock (drop of about 42 feet). Overall we've seen
surprisingly little boat traffic on the St. Lawrence and in this particular
lock, there was only one other boat.
The spot we anchored on Sunday night was near a
bird sanctuary, and we had the pleasure of seeing a pair of bald eagles flying
around as we watched the sunset. Sorry, no pictures of the eagles - they
were too far away to make a good picture, but check out the sunset picture
below. Again, Bob's expert photography does a great job of showcasing an
incredible sunset resulting from a stormy sky (you should see the non-internet
dumbed down version of this sunset.....too bad it is a giant 6.1M
file...).
More to come tomorrow when I plan to catch the blog
up to our current position in Montreal.
