We motored into the wind the short distance back to
Taiohae Bay yesterday. We were hoping to pick up the completed paperwork
that will allow us to purchase duty free fuel, but like all things in the
islands, it is taking much longer than anticipated. The paperwork should
be ready at noon today, then we will just have to wait for the fuel station to
reopen after lunch (the lunch hour runs from 11am to 2pm here, isn't that nice?)
so we can fuel up. That, plus a few more groceries will about do it for us
and we should be off on our four day trip to the Tuamotus around 3pm this
afternoon. At least that's the plan anyway.
Banana update: The last nine, completely
shriveled, blackened and mushy bananas were offered to Neptune as a gift
yesterday as we motored from Hakatea to Taiohae Bay. We're not sure
Neptune enjoys rotten bananas as much as he does champagne or rum, but we are
hoping our sacrifice will suffice to keep Neptune happy for the next few
days.
We will not be buying any bananas for our trip to
the Tuamotus.
More tomorrow from the high seas.
