Land ho!

Well, almost.  We are still about 60 miles away, so we can't really see land, but we know it is there.  (As opposed to the early explorers, who had no idea they were this close to land at this point in their voyage.  Poor suckers.)

We expect to arrive around 8pm Galapagos time tonight.  We think that means it will be either 6pm or 5pm Marquesas time.  We are embarrassed to admit it, but we are not sure how many time zones we have crossed on this trip.  We couldn't see the dotted lines that mark the time zones in the water when we crossed them because the map makers colored the dotted lines blue - which was really silly because the blue dotted lines blend right in with the blue water.

Final Marquesas Semi-Useless Factoid:
The islands are infested with a tiny fly called the 'no-no fly'.  They are most like the no-see-ums you find in Florida except that they are much more vicious.
Don, who is extremely sensitive to all types of insect bites, is particularly looking forward to meeting the famous Marquesas no-no fly.
I suspect with enough scotch, the no-no flies won't be a problem - at least for the first night.

More tomorrow confirming our arrival (or, if you don't want to wait that long, you can check the World ARC website fleet viewer.  It should show us as 'arrived' once they update the website, which should be early tomorrow morning).

Thanks for sharing this passage with us.  Knowing all of you were out there cheering for us made the trip that much more enjoyable.
Cheers from nearly the middle of nowhere -
Anne
