All is well as we motorsail on a mostly flat ocean
in really light winds. The fleet of 21 boats left Musket Cove this morning
(Thursday) at 10. It's now 5:30pm and 14 of the 21 are still
within sight. Should be a busy night for the radar.
Fijian dolphins swam with us for a while to wish us
bon voyage. Very thoughtful of them, don't you think? The water was
so clear and the sky so blue that the dolphins were visible even 10-15 feet
below the surface as they swam back and forth just in front of
our bow. Incredible beasts. We just love it when the dolphins come
to call. I always talk to them in hopes that they will stay longer, but
there were so many other boats around with which to play, they left us after
only a few minutes and moved on to wish our neighbors well.
A couple of boats have already caught fish - a
really big mahi-mahi for Scallywag and a nice wahoo for Lady Kay. We
haven't even had a bite yet, but the passage is young. There will be
plenty of time for fishing - especially given the continued light winds we are
expecting.
More tomorrow as we continue west
to Vanuatu.
