That about wraps up Season Four.  Slightly wimpy in that we didn't travel by boat very far, but we did see a fair bit of Southeast Asia, and above all else, managed to keep from completely melting in the heat and humidity.

~350 miles sailed (mostly motored)
5 months
2 countries (Malaysia and Thailand)
21 anchorages
3 marinas
4 land trips  (2 in Thailand, 1 to Vietnam and 1 to Penang, Malaysia)
As a result of our travels this season, we have a new appreciation for the chili pepper, karst limestone formations, Buddhism, sidewalk living and rice farming on the sides of muddy mountains (not to mention life in a communist nation struggling to catch up with the rest of the world).

Season Five promises to bring all manner of excitement as we move back into ocean crossing mode.  When compared to the Pacific and the southern Atlantic, the Indian Ocean is said to be 'boisterous' and 'bumpy' - so we'll have that to look forward to.  Our current plan is to fly back to Malaysia in mid-October complete final maintenance and provisioning in Langkawi, then sail north to Phuket in November.  We'll stay in Thailand until the northeast monsoon arrives, which should be around mid-January.  From Thailand, we may visit India's Andaman Islands and/or Sri Lanka, then the Maldives, Chagos, Mauritius and Reunion, for a total of ~4,000 sailing miles.  We hope to arrive in Reunion in June of 2012, where we will leave the boat for a few months to wait for southern hemisphere spring to arrive before making the final 1,500 run to South Africa's east coast in October or November of 2012....but I'm getting ahead of myself here....the final run to South Africa will take place at the beginning of Season Six for us.  Besides, as we've proven in the past, longer term plans are nothing but the basis for change - so you never know what we might decide to do by then.

The blog will be back in late October / early November for the start of Season Five.

We hope to see you all this summer!
