Summary:
Motoring. There's a lot to be said for flat seas
and easy motoring, but where's the challenge?, the adventure?, the
sleeplessness?, the seasickness?, the misery? We like to feel we've earned
something by the time we arrive at our destination. Arriving refreshed
like we just disembarked from a luxury cruise cheats us out of
a well-deserved victory. We've got a few more days to go including
navigation through Sri Lanka's nighttime fishing fleet, so there's still hope
we'll arrive with more to claim victory over than a thunderstorm
sandwich.
We sailed 5 of the previous 24 hours and covered 125
miles. A cakewalk.
Ship Watch:
One. We saw one fishing boat 4 miles off last
night, and that's it since the Nicobar Islands 4 days ago. Four
days, one boat.
Yesterday's Big Events:
We shared a beer at lunch. It usually takes until day 4
or 5 at sea before we can even think about beer, so the big event
yesterday occurred slightly behind schedule. Our only
excuse is it's the first passage we've done in a long, long time, so we're a
little off our passage-making game.
The dolphins made a brief tea time appearance.
These looked like spinner dolphins - the extra special acrobatic variety.
They're not called spinner for nothing. They were a little far away, but
we could still see them doing a series of triple back flips with one and a half
twists. Amazing creatures.
And the really big news? Stir-fried chicken for
dinner.
Equipment Failures:
None. (touch wood)
Still on track for a late Monday afternoon
arrival.
