Blog entry from Captain Don:

Life on Harmonie is going well.  The last twenty four hours were not all that productive.  The wind was lighter and backed more to the east, but not enough for our downwind rig which would make for easier sailing and better speed.  This morning the wind picked back up and we poled out the Genoa (big front sail), so now we are moving along quite nicely.

Last night after dinner, we were relaxing in the cockpit.  I was contemplating all of the change in the past year.  It was almost a year ago that Anne and I announced we were retiring and moving onto our boat to sail around the world.  I glanced over to Anne who was reading a novel (picture below).  This just emphasized the point.  What's the big deal about reading a book you ask?  Well, on July 1 of last year we departed Sodus Bay for the Atlantic Ocean.  The conditions on Lake Ontario were what we would describe as a little lumpy.  Anne was sea sick just sitting in the cockpit.  Last night, while the waves were not huge, they approached from several different directions.   John, on the nearby boat Chantelle said on the radio, "It is a bit rollier than we would like".  Anne had just cooked shrimp stir-fry from scratch for dinner.  Cooking in these conditions is a bit like juggling.  So after spending time working below in rolly seas, Anne moved to the cockpit to read her book as if the seas were flat as glass.  I guess that is what spending seven and a half months traveling over 8000 miles on a sailboat will do for you.

Now it's time for...
Marquesas Semi-Useless Factoid #7:
There are no indigenous animals in the Marquesas.  All of the animals that exist on the islands were brought by humans from some other place.
