On Saturday (11/24), we motored the very short
distance from Crown Bay Marina to the harbor of Charlotte Amalie on St.
Thomas. Once there, we anchored in a spot adjacent to where the cruise
ships tie up, and not too far from the center of town. Picture 1 shows our
view of Charlotte Amalie from our spot at anchor.
We stayed in Charlotte Amalie harbor one
night - just long enough to dinghy in to town and do some Christmas shopping,
buy some really cheap vodka (I mean good vodka at a really cheap price - $10 for
a liter of Finlandia, not bad, huh?) and spend happy hour on our boat
watching a cruise ship get underway at sunset (picture 2). We grinned
up at all of the cruise ship people that were grinning down at us. They
were probably wondering what our story was, but we knew their story all too well
- back to work in a week - poor souls.
