As always the second day underway has been a
big improvement over the first. The winds are down some and the sea is not
nearly as ugly as it was yesterday. The clouds have cleared and we had a
beautiful sailing day today. We even took showers. That's always a
sign that the seas and our stomachs are relatively calm.
We had a mishap with our mainsail yesterday, but
are not sure of the cause. Something has gone awry with the furler which
ended up causing us to tear the sail (no more than six inches or so, so not
catastrophic) and break a plastic piece that helps guide the sail into the
mast. Don will investigate further after we arrive in Fiji when the boat
isn't moving side-side and up and down fairly vigorously like it is now.
The good news is that the wind is generally behind us so we don't really need
the mainsail at the moment anyway. Never a dull moment on the high
seas...
We are sailing fast, so still plan to arrive in
Savusavu, Fiji tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. Aside from the problem with
the mainsail and bruised egos caused by one of the catamarans passing us
by today, everything is okey dokey.
More tomorrow after we arrive in Fiji.
