Our first night out was smooth with light winds and
small seas, but once we got away from the Australian islands that hug the coast,
it got a little ugly with big seas and wind gusts up to 30 knots. The wind
is on the beam as expected, but big waves make for lots heeling. So much
so that our generator was not happy and pooped out. Because we were heeled
over so far, it wasn't getting any water in through the intake, which it did not
take too kindly. We turned downwind and slowed the boat down so Don could
make a running repair. The generator is happy now and we will be more careful
about running it in these seas.
We are approaching night two and all is well with
lots of wind on the beam and seas that are slightly more pleasant.
More tomorrow from a hopefully more stable
Harmonie.
