Since the time of the anchorage from hell (last
Saturday night, 7/28), we decided to make a fast run down the rest of the river,
into the Gulf of the St. Lawrence and south to Prince Edward Island
(PEI). We did this in two ~30 hour stretches with one overnight break in
between.
The first of these two 30ish hour sails (I'm using
this term loosely as we motored the first 25 hours due
to either no wind or wind coming from the direction in which we wanted
to go - never a good thing when you are trying to sail) took us
from the hell anchorage in Anse du Petit
Metis to Gaspe Bay.
The first day (Sunday, 7/29) the fog had cleared
and left us with a beautiful windless day. We passed a wind farm along the
southern coast of the St. Lawrence Gulf (pictured below) and felt comforted that
we weren't the only ones suffering from the lack of wind.
The overnight motor was uneventful except for the
spider massacre that occurred. We adopted a new zero tolerance
policy. If a spider shows up, it dies via a variety of
methods: drowning, blunt force trauma, or torture. I'm happy to
report that the spider population has decreased dramatically as a
result.
We passed the location noted above (and on the map)
at about midnight on Sunday night.
