The trip to Fiji is a little more complex
than our usual ocean voyage because there is a long reef including a bunch
of small islands in between Tonga and Fiji, directly in our path. So,
being the engineers that we are, we calculated very precisely when we would need
to leave Tonga and what speed we would need to travel in order to
reach the eastern edge of the reef in daylight.
You may be thinking that all of our calculations
were for naught and we are way off schedule because the wind isn't cooperating
or we miscalculated or both. Not so! The wind is cooperating beyond
our wildest dreams. It's directly behind us and blowing just enough to
keep us going at a smooth 6 knots - which of course is the speed on which all of
our calculations are based. So, at this moment, we are perfectly on
schedule, and at this pace we should see the first of the reef at daybreak
tomorrow.
Of course, all hell could break loose at any moment
and throw us off course and schedule, but we have decided to enjoy this moment
while it lasts and congratulate ourselves on our superior planning abilities
while we have the chance. Tomorrow will most likely bring a completely
different story. If so, you'll be the first to hear about it.
