On Thursday (9/20) we completed another 60ish mile motor, then motorsail, then sail, then motor through Block Island Sound into Long Island Sound to New Haven.  Wow, three states in three days - who would have thought it could be done in a sailboat?

Once we entered Long Island Sound, we found two things: our long lost summer, and not whales, but submarines.  Yes, for the first time since our trip to Provincetown, the daytime temperature in the cabin exceeded 70F, and we decreased the clothing layer count from 3 (Don) or 4 (me) to 1 (no, underwear doesn't count - we're talking shorts and a t-shirt here).  And the submarines?  We saw two.  Nope, we didn't have to sink the boat and swim around underwater to see them, they were steaming around a bit above the surface (see the first picture below).  Our tax dollars at work keeping Long Island Sound safe, I guess.

From the water, the city of New Haven is pretty industrial, but here in Morris Cove, which is in the outer New Haven harbor area, the scenery is quite nice (see the second picture).  Of course, a blog entry would not be complete without the obligatory sunset picture, so here it is.
