On Saturday (8/25), we sailed (yup, sailed) from
Northeast Harbor to Merchant Island, which is in the eastern part of Penobscot
Bay. It was a little warmer (67F) and hazy, and then it was
foggy. Dodging the lobster pot buoys while sailing in the fog was a
new experience, but one that we survived without mishap.
The first two pictures below show nice arrays of
lobster buoys as we made our way through them (before and after the fog).
If it weren't for the nasty threat they pose to boat props, you could almost say
that their colorful mish mash is quite delightful to
view.
The third picture below is of the sunset as
seen from Merchant Harbor. We were the only boat there, and after
Northeast Harbor, the relative solitude was nice. This spot reminded
us a lot of the Thousand Islands - except for the tides, water temperature,
salt water, ocean swell and fog.
