Another Koh Hong. This one is situated nine miles
further south in Phang Nga Bay from Koh Kudu, and closer to Krabi Province on
mainland Thailand. We arrived on February 18th.

sign on shore.
![]() Empty kayak evidence of tourists having earlier been there and
since moved on. Kathie, Don and myself walking Koh Hong's soft
white powder sand beach in the late afternoon.
![]() A 2004 tsunami longtail boat victim found lying next
to Koh Hong's nature trail far from the beach. There were
several other longtail tsunami victims lying next to the trail as well as a
memorial plaque noting the tsunami date (12/26/2004), number of injured people
(50 something, no deaths were mentioned although it's hard to believe there
weren't any) and location where the survivors waited for rescue (near the
center of the small island and on as high a ground as they could
find).
![]() Entrance to Happy Hong on Koh Hong. Dubbed 'Happy'
because after seeing so many hongs, the four of us were anticipating more of a
ho-hum hong. Instead, our dinghy ride through this narrow
entrance revealed more of a magical, happy hong filled with water and
surrounded by tall. cave-laced limestone walls. Even the four longtails
and two speedboats toting tourists didn't bother us as we puttered around behind
them in a counter-clockwise tour of the Happy Hong
lagoon.
![]() The cave dwellers. They came as a bit of a surprise as
we rounded the corner during our dinghy circumnavigation of Koh Hong.
We saw the cave, then bits of colored cloth. A few seconds later we
realized we were looking at people. Two of them - one waving from the
rocks and the other laying on what looks like a comfy bed set up on some kind of
bamboo scaffolding. What could be cozier? A cave with a view.
Not only that, but if you are fisherman, as these two most
likely are, the cave comes with a built-in garage for your longtail.
Delightful.
