Ok, that's about it for Season Three. We leave Rebak
Marina on Saturday, December 18, and arrive in Syracuse Sunday evening. To
get there from here, we'll take a ferry from Rebak Island to Langkawi
Island, a taxi to the Langkawi airport, a flight from Langkawi to Penang, a
second flight to Singapore where we will stay overnight, then a third
flight to Hong Kong, a fourth flight to Chicago and a fifth flight to
Syracuse. The whole process will take about 48 hours and will probably be
more exhausting than the three day, 500 mile bumpy sail from Darwin, Australia
to Banda, Indonesia. The welcome won't be quite the same either. Of
course some of our family will be there, but certainly the local and state
government officials and/or 15,000 local residents won't be on hand to usher us
through the airport like they ushered us through the town of
Bandaneira upon our arrival in Indonesia. We can't have
everything, now can we? Really we're just hoping that the Chicago
and Syracuse weather cooperates for the short window of time we need
it to.
Season Three wrap-up:
5,260 miles 'sailed' (2,000 around the coast of Australia and
the rest through Indonesia and Malaysia)
Amazing sailing inside the Great Barrier
Reef
Non-existent sailing throughout most of Indonesia, Singapore
and Malaysia
11 months including the broken ankle incident and the
Australian road trip
4 countries
71 anchorages
15 marinas
Bowled over by Indonesia - our biggest and most pleasant
surprise of the season
Survived the world's busiest seaway, off-the-scale
humidity, and Penang's almost-but-not-quite dodgy
marina with no breakwall
Topped it all off with the Bad Luck Browns
Not too bad. Not too bad at all.
More to come next season
starting around mid-February.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
