Smooth sailing.
It's smooth as long as you don't mind a little roll - we
don't, so all is well.
We left Port Elizabeth as planned yesterday at 4pm, and after
a few hours of motoring, were able to sail slowly through most of the
night in light southeast wind. The clouds cleared around midnight,
and all the stars came out to see us for the first time in ages, so despite the
cold and having to wear a good five layers to keep warm, it was a good
night. Early this morning the wind went just light enough to cause the
sails to slap and bang, which kept Don mostly awake during his off-watch
time. As if his life wasn't tough enough already given the outcome of the
presidential election yesterday!
Things are quieter now as we roll along at a speed of 7
knots, with 20 knots of east wind behind us. Later today and
tonight things should get a bit more boisterous with more wind, but we
are no longer in the thick of the Agulhas Current, so the ride should
be less like a rollercoaster and more like a spirited jaunt through bumpy
terrain.
More tomorrow as we close in on Cape Agulhas.
