Yes, it's true!  A fish has finally been caught!  One of those elusive Pacific fish has finally succumbed to Don's fishing prowess. A twenty-five pound tuna.  Not a triple-back-flipping mahi-mahi, but we decided a tuna would do just fine.

Of course all of this happened while Don was on watch and I was sleeping this morning.  I awoke to a loud knocking sound.  It sounded like a big fish was knocking on the outside of our hull, asking for permission to come on board (much like boaters do when they arrive in their dinghy and want to get your attention).  I ignored the knocking and rolled over.  A minute later, again with the knocking.  Still groggy, since it was only 9:30 and my normal morning sleep time lasts until at least 10:30,  I got up to see what the big fish wanted.  I peered out of the companionway and didn't see a big fish knocking on the hull, but did see a big fisherman with a big fishing pole, struggling to reel in a big fish, and knocking on the deck to get my attention.
'Finally!'  he said, 'What took you so long to get up?  What if this was a real emergency?'
Hmmmm.  That would be bad.  But if this were a real emergency, would Don really knock on the boat like a big fish, or would he just yell like crazy like a normal person?  Let's hope he yells.  Otherwise, I might just go on dreaming about big fish wanting to come on board for a nice visit.

Don landed the big fish with no trouble, and proceeded to fillet it without the expert assistance of that fishmonger extraordinaire, Bill Maloney.  All was completed in about two hours time and our freezer now has about eight to ten pounds of tuna steaks in it.  So, if you are hungry for some fresh tuna, you know where to find us.

In the meantime, we continue to motor toward Niue.  All that fuss about high winds and bad weather has really come to nothing and we are slogging along with no wind.  We plan to arrive tomorrow (Wednesday) around noon.

Cheers from the wife of a happy fisherman-
Anne
