New season 2015
36 46.8N 14 32.9E Marina di Ragusa We arrived back here on 2nd of April and moved into a villa overlooking the marina while the boat was being prepared for re-launching. We enjoyed some interesting sightseeing trips including Sciclia on Easter Sunday for the very splendid parades and beautiful 18th century architecture. We also visited Ragusa Ibla another stunning old town rebuilt after the devastating earthquake in 1693. While there we ate in the Rusticana restaurant as featured in Inspector Montalbano TV series. Another trip was to the ancient site of the Roman Villa del Casale with its extensive mosaics - the best we have ever seen. We enjoyed a fabulous meal at a restaurant on the road towards Santa Croze - Rosacambre. Great local food friendly service and a taxi service to pick up and take you back to the marina or hotel. Check it out on Trip advisor. The relaunch went smoothly but shortly after tying up we noticed smoke pouting from the engine room! On inspection and following a phone call to the UK to speak to our friend Graham (SYC) and marine engineer, we discovered the problem to be a broken flange joint on the exhaust system. We were unable to fix this but a local engineer came later in the day and did so. We finally left the marina and motored to Marzamemi a small town on the south east coast where we spent two nights and enjoyed a delicious meal at a Michelin listed fish restaurant in the old port area (buildings dating from the 17th century. This town was the centre of the Tuna industry for 100s of years and the original buildings are now preserved and re-used as cafes bars etc. Having enjoyed our time here we set off for Siracusa on Tuesday 14th of April. |
