Having left the bay on Nisos Dhia at 0430 we headed west around the end of
this tiny island before setting off for Santorini. The seas were confused
and the swell short and big - sometimes as much as 3 metres. The wind as
predicted started off around a force 5 to 6 from the west but moderated to
west 4 before our arrival. It was a pretty uncomfortable passage with the
boat falling off the big waves and occasional dowsing of spray. We had
started the journey with two reefs in the main but had to put the third
reef in to make the motion more comfortable. Our arrival at the small
marina on the south coast of Thira was most welcome. having been there
before we were more confident of the approach though still followed the
prescribed route in across the shallowing sandy bay. The marinerar was on
the end of the jetty to greet us and directed us to go alongside a 50 foot
benetau on the north side of the outer harbour arm. This was fine but it
was very shallow 2.1m. We only stayed one night paying the same fee of 15
Euros including water and electricity (which wasn't working!) as last
year. Next stop Ios.
