16th May Finnike
We had a quiet motor sail to Finnike passing through the eastern entrance of Kekova Roads enabling us to see the various anchorages
and the wonderful old castle on the hills. Our arrival in Finnike was uneventful - helpful marina staff and good communication from the shore
based team soon found us all fast on a pontoon. This place had a really good feel to it - a busy yard with good facilities including a laundry.
There seemed to be quite a large 'live aboard' community and town was an easy stroll. Jacky went off to the local Hamman for a steam and rub
the facilities had been booked exclusively for rally members. Unfortunately too many went at once so there was a bit of a hold up inside and not
much time for a proper massage but what we got was welcome! We explored the town the following day and found several small shops plus an area
round a square where there were some fruit and vegetable stalls. Lovely local strawberries were being delivered as we arrived to shop - so needless to
say they went into the basket! We had another good cocktail party with a light buffet provided. The skipper's briefing had mentioned strong winds and there was some
discussion about postponing the departure to Kemer. However it was decided to leave early so on Tuesday morning we were up bright and early ready to leave at
0600. We started off with one reef in the main and a half furled jib but soon reduced sail as the further out we got to the point S.E of Finnike the larger the swell became and the stronger the winds
We made a fast, if some what uncomfortable passage to Kemer but the sun was shining and we were still wearing just shorts and T shirts despite wind force in excess of 30 knots at times!
With an arrival slot of 1300 - 1400 we had to slow down so dropped the mainsail and just used the jib for the last couple of hours.
